Welcome to the National Consortium of Interpreter Education Centers! Six federally funded Interpreter Education Centers established the National Consortium in 2006 as a way to maximize expertise, leadership, and fiscal resources toward the shared goal of enhancing sign language interpreting education. Through collaboration among the Centers and with partnering organizations and individuals, we built effective practice foundations for the work that continues today. Our website is designed topically around our key areas of focus. Be sure to open the main navigation bar tabs before viewing the content in the drop down menus. The main tabs provide an overview of what is inside. Please visit often to see our website evolve. Look for new educational products, publications, and announcements of upcoming events of interest to a wide audience of interpreter educators and mentors, current and aspiring interpreters, consumers of interpreting services, and vocational rehabilitation service providers.
The NCIEC created a website all about careers in interpreting. Visit DiscoverInterpreting.com to learn about a day in the life of an interpreter, watch videos of interpreters talking about their work, find an interpreting education program, request recruitment material, and get involved! |
A website dedicated to resources for and about Deaf interpreters was first created by the NCIEC in 2007. Here you can locate findings of our investigations of Deaf interpreter practice, an ever growing annotated bibliography of articles, books, and videos, a calendar of training opportunities, and more. |
A member center of the NCIEC, the CATIE Center at St. Catherine University has built a unique website on interpreting in healthcare settings. Interpreters, interpreting educators, patients, and providers will find myriad resources and materials to support their education needs in medical and mental health interpreting. |
